An email from a friend!
Subject: This election is not lost!
Dear Friends in Christ,
Are you sensing that there is something different about this presidential election? I was telling someone just recently that it seems like this election is far more serious than those in the recent past. Something in my spirit is very uneasy. In the past I have felt the need to pray for different elections but I have never felt so strongly the urge to pray, and pray fervently, for an election as I do for this one. I truly believe that if the wrong person (Obama) is elected this nation will be changed forever. We may not be able to undo the things that will be unleashed during an Obama presidency. My concern about an Obama presidency is not based on politics; it is based on righteousness. Look at any of the major moral issues (abortion, homosexuality etc.) and you will find Obama on the wrong side of the issue, and Palin and McCain on the right side of the issue. What makes this so disturbing is that the Obama team has raised far more money than McCain/Palin and the media is unabashedly supporting Obama with every story and headline they write. Currently McCain/Palin is behind in the polls and is having a very difficult time. Some in the media have suggested that the race is over and there is little or nothing McCain can do to change the outcome. Oh how wrong they are!
Let me briefly share a story I recently read in 2 Samuel Chapter 5. David had just become king of
This story holds a very important lesson for us at this time. In most presidential elections a frontal assault, a face-to-face battle, is what is needed. But this is no ordinary election. McCain is trying all the normal tactics but he is not prevailing. It seems no matter what he says or does it is not effective. I am convinced this election CANNOT be won using normal methods. Just as the Lord told David to go around behind the enemy and attack him there, so we must go around the face of this election and wage war where the battle is truly raging…in the spiritual realm! The fact that the normal physical methods are not effective this time should tell us that this is a very important spiritual battle and we can only win by using spiritual methods…Prayer!
What about the sound of marching in the treetops? What is that? I have read on the Internet several accounts of fellow Christians being stirred up in their spirits to pray. Many have been drawn into times of deep prayer and weeping as they intercede for Palin and McCain. Some have woke up in the middle of the night and sensed a great need to pray, other have told of how when they heard about Sarah Palin being chosen as VP that something came over them and they wept and felt a need to pray for Her and McCain. Many others are feeling the calling and urging of the Spirit to enter into a time of fervent prayer and fasting for Palin and McCain and our nation. What is this unusually stirring that is occurring? I believe it is the Sound of the Lord marching in the trees, calling his children to act quickly to pray and fast for Palin and McCain. Think about this, what would the marching have sounded like to David? It may have sounded like the rustling of leaves as when wind blows through them, but was this time something was different and out of the ordinary. Maybe it was like the sound of the great wind when the Spirit moved on the day of Pentecost. Also, God’s people are referred to as Trees of Righteous in Isaiah 61. So the sound of the Lord marching in the treetops in David’s time is a portrait of the Spirit of the Lord moving among and stirring up his children today.
So what are we to do when we sense this stirring of the Spirit? Two things, first we are to take it as the sign that the Lord is moving out in front of us. Anytime the Lord calls us to do something he goes ahead of us to prepare the way and fight for us. When Joshua returned from spying out
This election is by no means lost. For God would not be stirring up his children all across this nation and indeed around the world, to pray, if he did not want to give us the victory in this election. And he wants us to join him in the battle. God will hear the cries of his children if we will only cry out to him with fervent, earnest, prayers for this election and this nation. If those who are being drawn to prayer by the Spirit will indeed enter into a time of prayer and seeking His face, then God will have mercy on America spare us from having an ungodly leader, I’m sure of it!
One more thought, after the last debate, so-called ‘conservative’ David brooks gushed about Obama,
"I thought Obama had the night he needed to have. You know, through this whole 20 month marathon, I think what struck me is how incredibly even he is. And how frankly reassuring he is. It is like you’re camping, and you wake up one morning, and there is a mountain. And then the next morning, there is a mountain, and there’s the next morning, there’s a mountain. Obama is just the mountain. He is just there. He is always the same, he doesn't hurt himself. McCain can sometimes lob a cannonball at the mountain, but the mountain doesn't move, and the mountain doesn't care. And so I think his steadiness, his temperament has been the dramatic theme of this campaign, dramatic in being undramatic. And it was on display tonight. And the good part of the mountain is that he is reassuring and reliable."
I’m really glad he used the word ‘mountain’ to describe Obama. It caused me to remember what Jesus said about unmovable mountains. Jesus said, I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."
And it only takes a little faith!
This election can only be won by going around the face of the election and attacking the enemy where he is vulnerable, through prayer, fasting and praise. If you hear the sound of the Lord marching in the tree tops, if you feel the stirring of the Spirit calling you to pray, then move quickly into a time of prayer, for God is moving ahead of you at that time to give us the victory. May God give us ears to hear the marching!
Together with you in the battle,
Scott Whitley

Differences in Conservatives and Liberals
Many liberals will claim to believe in God, and be against abortion, and be for gun rights (some of them), but then declare, "But, I don't want that crammed down my throat." HUH?
Conversely, conservatives don't want things they DON'T BELIEVE IN crammed down their throats.
Liberals will embrace things they claim not to believe in (socialism, abortion, gun control, punitive taxes) and shun things they do claim to believe in (God, sanctity of life, capitalism, and the American Dream, the Constitution).
Conservatives will embrace (or cling to) things they do believe in (God, sanctity of life, capitalism, and the American Dream, the Constitution) and shun things they don't believe in(socialism, abortion, gun control, punitive taxes).
So America, let's decide what we believe, throw it out in the open, demand the candidates be truthful about what they believe, and vote for our values! There is a truth gap opening between the two campaigns that reveals much more than differences in character between the candidates.
John 8:44 says, "You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and stayed not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it."
Who does that remind you of? Maybe it sounds like the man who says we are all our brother's keeper, but his brother lives in a hut in Africa. Maybe it sounds like the man who says he is against abortion, but voted to require doctors to deny care to babies who survived abortion. Or maybe it sounds like the man who says we must do more to help the poor, but has given less than 1/10th of 1 percent of his income to charity.
I expect no candidate to be perfect in reciting facts and figures, but there is an undeniable pattern of intentional deceit and hypocrisy on one side.
You can always recognize a liberal trying to masquerade as a moderate conservative when they start using tortured logic to explain why they are not conservative on a specific issue or during this specific presidential election. They are being deceived by the father of lies and those who have abandoned the truth. I am not going with any of these people as they abandon the truth, but have my eyes open to the fact that they are not as wise, strong, or Godly as we thought them to be.
For my brother and sister Christians, read the Word and believe what God has told us. This will resolve those conflicts within you about your political ideology. Draw close to God and do not compromise on what you believe and do not be ashamed of your vote. I know people don't like to talk about their sins in church and wonder if that is why some people won't talk about their vote in church. It really is hard to defend sin in the House of God.

My Tribute to Stay at Home Moms
I want to say thank you to my wife and all the other stay at home mothers. Despite demeaning comments by Geraldine Ferraro and other worldly feminists, I see motherhood as God's highest calling and believe stay at home moms are doing the Lord's work. When you excel in a career, you may have a positive impact on a few people for a few hours a week or even a few years in the best of cases, but when you excel as a Christian mother, you impact God's Kingdom for generations.
Now, that I have a few years of observations on such things, I want to encourage women to arrange their lives in a way that their families don't have to compete with their careers. I know many, many women who have left very successful careers to stay at home and I have never heard one who regretted it. On the other side of that coin, I have heard many career women being torn at the seams by the demands of career and family and the mythical balance between the two. Moms are not supposed to miss the most important moments of their children's lives and wives are not supposed to practice abstinence, especially the kind resulting from career induced exhaustion. Moms, your children do not care how good you are at your job, just how much you invest in them and how much you love their dad. If you want to do what is best for your children, there's a good chance that means giving them more of your time and giving your job less time (maybe zero time!).
My wife has always been a stay at home mom and it has been tremendously rewarding for her. What other job requires a knowledge economics, culinary arts, anatomy, medicine, counseling, fashion, and stain removal? Moms have their own organizations and clubs like Mothers of Preschoolers (known as MOPs, but I told Cammie she should start a Hot MOPs chapter for all the good-looking moms like her:-), JustMoms.com, and local PTAs (which may be the new pipeline to the presidency:-).
Cammie achieved undeniable supermom status when our second boy arrived. It is hard enough to take care of three children, but taking care of three with my DNA and temperament (who must fight with each other constantly to be happy) make Cammie a daily miracle worker. Add to this that I am about to leave for the fifth time on deployment you get the picture that Job probably would have looked to Cammie to learn about patience. For those of you who are not military, just know that deployments are always the time when things go haywire at home. On back to back deployments, Cammie had to have both of our long-time (11 plus years) family pets, Charlie and Pile, put to sleep, and then had her minivan rear-ended by a school bus at a red light. Our family has been blessed compared to other military families, but I would ask for special prayers for all military moms. If you know a military mom whose husband is deployed, call her today and just let her talk with an adult.
Again, I want to thank all the stay at home moms and point to the Bible for a picture of how important they are. Joseph was selected as Jesus's earthly father due to his lineage. God selected Mary because of her virture to be Jesus stay at home mother. How ridiculous would it have been for Mary to tell God that she couldn't take care of Jesus because she had to go to her job? What job is more important than raising your child? Isn't every child a gift from God? Don't they all deserve our best as parents?
I understand how scary life changes can be and if you are a career woman who is also a mother, I want to share a note from a friend who left a successful and rewarding career to stay at home. I think it is a masterpiece of encouragement for other women facing that choice. I just asked her if she could write a short note on what it meant to her to be a stay at home mom and here is what she wrote:
Wow, a short note? Not sure how to make this life I am choosing to live short!!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Bottom line is I LOVE IT!! Now that coming from someone who LOVED and I do mean LOVED my full time job!! I was/am the type that puts 110% into things that I do and I was consumed by my job to save other people's children...I was so consumed that I almost lost my family in order to save others...but with that said, the LORD is an amazing Savior and Grace giver!!
The sacrifices that I have made were many...I lost a LOT of control, but gained self reliance and a smile that greets me as if to say everything will be fine...and in loosing the control that I thought I liked, I have learned to lean on God and others to help even me out!!
Just this past week my best friend needed me...EVERYDAY and I was able to go help her and had I not been there I'm not sure what she would have done...if I still had my paid job, I wouldn't have been able to help her...I don't think she will ever forget it either!!
I've come to realize that I can go through the day and having nothing to show for it, but know that I accomplished enough just by being here with my daughter and being able to get my son without worrying about my paid job....my son even though he is in school loves me being home, he likes that feeling of Mommy is there and no one else (or another child) is going to be first on my list!!
I've given up a lot and I guess if I had been keeping score I might have seen a lot of things that I gave up more right now, but I honestly don't think that they matter that much anymore!! After you get some type of routine down, whether it happens every day the way you plan it or not, you forget about the control and other things that seemed important and are just able to look at your life...although I only see small rewards maybe like once a month or so I believe the end result will be Pleasing in the Sight of the Lord!!!

Where Jesus gets bad coverage
I am not sure when it became so scandalous to be a follower of Jesus Christ, but watching network news makes it obvious that it is.
I am a follower of Jesus, not just a believer. I am not going to forget about all the snarky comments about Sarah Palin's faith and the attacks on her because she too is a follower of Christ. I am not going to pretend that there is any value in watching a news broadcast that belittles Jesus at every opportunity and then compares their favored candidate to him.
If you are a Christian and like to think that you can separate your faith from your politics or your character, I believe you are luke warm at best. If you can claim to follow Christ and vote against his teachings, you are being deceived. If you are comfortable hearing a fellow Christian being drug through the mud and Christian teachings being made fun of, I am questioning your faith and you should, too.
Sarah Palin is not qualified to be Vice President simply because she is a Christian, but being a Christian surely does not disqualify her. The media wants you to think its ok for leaders to be Christians as long as they check their beliefs at the door when they go to work. WHY?! Why does praying about your decisions make you less qualified? What does seeking God's approval make you a nut unfit to lead, but seeking Europe's approval makes you sophisticated? What is faith if somebody does not take it seriously - it is hypocrisy and that is what the media is comfortable with in their politicians. If the media can't find hypocrisy in a candidate, they question their character? When they do have to confront their darlings hypocrisy, they question your character and my character (remember - everybody lies about sex and character does not matter?).
Sarah Palin is Christianity on display. She is not perfect, but she is devout and committed to her faith. She will govern in accordance with the principles of her faith and that gives me confidence in her ability to govern! She has put Jesus out front and it is obvious who Jesus's opponents are by the way they are attacking her. Here are some of the classless criticisms.
She is unqualified because her daughter became pregnant out of wedlock.
Her best qualification is that she never had an abortion.
She won't have time to raise her children.
Jesus was a community organizer and Pontius Pilate was a governor.
She believes the war on terrorism is a Holy War (obviously its only ok for the terrorists to believe this because it puts the US on the unholy side).
She is unfit to lead because it is unbecoming a woman to be a hunter and own a bear skin rug (God gave us dominion over the animals!). Pamela Anderson made a brilliant statement on this (google to discover the sarcasm).
She is unfit to lead because she is friendly to Israel.
These are the attacks related to her faith. The attacks on her record, policies, and experience are just as ridiculous, but at least they are in the political arena. Let us compare the record of Sarah Palin and Biden and Obama. A fair comparison will be very flattering to Governor Palin.
I will take it this a step further. Let us compare the patriotism and faith of the candidates - side by side. How have they demonstrated patriotism - Palin has enacted lots of benefits for her National Guard soldiers who have served in Iraq and has performed exemplary as the Commander in Chief of the National Guard. Her oldest son is an active member of the military headed to Iraq. Obama has refused to wear a flag pin or pledge allegiance to our flag and skipped an event with wounded warriors in favor of shooting basketball. It seems they could not get the cameras into the hospital, but they could get the cameras to the gym.
Who is more sincere in theirfaith? Governor Palin has lived her faith and has been pro-life in the kind of circumstances that cause some pro-life people to become hypocrites. Obama can't bring himself to say that Jesus is the only way to Heaven, but claims to be a Christian. Biden has been asked to search his soul before he takes communion because of the contradiction between his faith and his political views.
If that comparison makes you uncomfortable, WHY??????
I have criticized John McCain for his policies and votes, but there is much to admire in the man and his service to our country. Now, I have to admit that McCain's selection of Palin has won me over - I'm going to donate money and vote and had no plans to do either. But it is Palin that is stirring my political energy to support her and as a fellow believer, I can rally around her with every fibre of my being! Where are you? Don't be afraid to vote according to your faith. I am supporting a candidate who is extremely qualified and shares my faith in Jesus. If you have more faith in government than God, then just be honest and say that and vote your faith. If enough people share that faith in government, it will be the death of our country, but at least we will know where we stand as a country.
And before anybody emails me to tell me how offended they are as a believer, please point me to the Biblical basis of your beliefs without trying to twist scriptures to fit a secular world view. I am done being polite at the expense of the truth.

I am no longer voting against Obama and Biden
Instead of holding my nose and voting for the lesser of two sorry choices, I am now able to vote for Governor Palin and be proud of it. She happens to be on the ticket with John McCain, but make no mistake, I am voting for Sarah Palin.
I wasn't extremely familiar with Sarah Palin's story when she was announced, but I have verified her bona fides as a conservative. Dr. Dobson loves her, Rush loves her (guns, babies, and Jesus - what a great line -I'm pro all three!), and most importantly the media hates her and is already attacking her personally. For those of you who need an interpretation, when they start attacking her personally instead of her record, we have a winner (Note - looking at one's record, stand on issues, history, and closest associates is not a personal attack). So far, I have heard that her hair is unsatisfactory, that she made a bad choice running because she has a Down's Syndrome child, and questions about how many homes she has.
Mom, hunter, maverick and the one area where I agree with John McCain. She shot a moose and now she has a donkey in her sites! Finally, I am ready for the election.

Are you a survivor or a leader
As I sat in church this morning, something the speaker said (it was Youth Sunday) made me reflect on the choice me make about what kind of Christian we will be.
I have been through military survival training and military leader training. From my experience, there is a great difference in a survivor and a leader.
In survival school, students are taught to avoid the enemy or anthing that could threaten their safety. They are taught to become as invisible as possible and wait for somebody to save them. We have the option of living our Christian lives that way. Christians can try to stay in a safe sanctuary and have limited contact with the fallen world around us and still be secure in their salvation, but is that what we are commanded to do?
In my military leader training, I have been taught to prepare myself to meet the enemy, to seek contact with the enemy, and bring overwhelming force with me. I have been taught to fight the enemy, not to communicate with the enemy. I have also been taught that as a military leader, I am most effective when I am where the commander wants me, doing what the commander wants me to do, and reporting to the commander what I am doing and how it is going. It has been my experience that you will receive very clear guidance if you are not doing what the commander wants.
All of this experience and my reading of the Bible tells me that God wants us to be leaders who are constantly fighting for him and constantly talking to him about that fight. Despite the claims of some smiling hucksters who promise you a life of comfort, the New Testament promises Christians who follow Christ (and lead others) that they will face hardship. There many references to Spiritual warfare and the Centurion is singled out for causing Christ to marvel at his faith. These examples are instructional, not coincidental.
How can you be sure that we are to be leaders and not just survivors? I think Mark captures Jesus's instructions to his believers very clearly, to include describing the overwhelming force in the faith of a believer.
Mark 16: 15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they[b] will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
For a while, I was probably just a survivor. Never again will I just survive when I have the opportunity to lead. What will you do?

My vote for President
I have decided who I am voting for for President!
Many of my friends have asked and I have expressed a lot of uncertainty, but I have weighed all options and come to a conclusion.
Based on the choices we have, I have decided to write in Ronald Reagan!
